Germany's Angelique Kerber won a seventh straight match as she steamed into the semi-finals of the Sydney International on Thursday boosting her confidence for next week's Australian Open.
The German endured a tough campaign a year ago, but appears close to recapturing her best form, claiming a title to begin the season with a 6-4 6-4 win over Barty.
Kerber had played 26 tournaments in a row without winning the title.
"This start is not bad, for sure", Kerber said.
During the trophy presentation, Kerber said: "I am playing awesome tennis again and feeling just great".
Angelique Kerber continues her hot streak, wins title in Sydney
"I have had a great week and the final was not easy against Ash but I was able to play my game in important moments". Kerber, a former No. 1 and the 2016 Australian Open champion didn't had a great season in 2017 where she lost her number one ranking and moved out of top 20. "Hopefully I can go bigger and better next week".
The other semi-final will be an all-Australian affair between Ashleigh Barty and Daria Gavrilova. Giorgi beat defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-2.
Elsewhere, Elise Mertens defended her Hobart International title after a 6-1 4-6 6-3 win over Mihaela Buzarnescu. She will definitely be among the ones to watch at the Australian Open, where two years she won her first Grand Slam title beating Serena Williams in the final.
In men's quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Fabio Fognini beat No. 5 Adrian Mannarino 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-2, Daniil Medvedev defeated Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-3, and Benoit Paire beat second-seeded Gilles Muller 6-4, 6-4.
