Arsene Wenger confirms Alexis Sanchez's transfer is 'imminent' after Manchester United's offer

But United have emerged as genuine rivals to City in the pursuit of Sanchez, with Jose Mourinho's side reportedly willing to meet Arsenal's asking price and secure an immediate transfer.

Mkhitaryan has since returned to the fold, but United are aware of Wenger's admiration of the attacking midfielder and his involvement in the Sanchez pursuit could hold the key to United beating City to the forward.

"His situation is not completely decided one way or the other, so I left him at home".

When asked whether news was imminent, Wenger told Sky Sports: "Yes, [but] don't read too much into it because I don't know what way it'll go". When at his best, the Chile worldwide is one of the most decisive players in the world, and his pace and skill can upset any defensive line.

Should Jose Mourinho manage to land the 29-year-old, one man who will be delighted yet a little embarrassed is Rio Ferdinand. But in relation to Alexis Sanchez I don't say a word. Until then, here's our match preview:How Arsène Wenger, who will again be peering from the stands, would love a victory after the nightmare in Nottingham.

Naturally, United fans loved Ferdinand's tweet and have forgiven him for suggesting Sanchez should join City instead.

"They are top of the league, they are going to win the league this season, they are in the Champions League, they are looking like they will be in the final for the League cup, the FA Cup as well potentially". So, they want a combination of the two, that big clubs can give them.

The Chilean's contract is up in the summer and Arsenal are keen to recoup some money for him rather than letting him go for free at the end of the season. Incidentally he's won trophies with us.
