Baker Mayfield pushes back on "bad boy" Johnny Manziel comparison

As a player, his biggest strength has been see quarterback, get quarterback.

And he simply shrugs it off.

The Oklahoma Sooners standout had a strong week of practices at the college all-star showcase in Mobile, Alabama, but he was noncommittal about whether he would play in Saturday's game. "That's all out the window". "You want to pick at all these things, but I think eventually, 'how does he play the game?"'

Mayfield took the first rep, moving back and forth over the blocks at the direction of quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan before nailing his target.

Mayfield didn't hold back when asked what the Browns would be getting if they turn in a card with his name on it.

"Better than yesterday", Mayfield said after practice.

Da'Shawn Hand, DL, Alabama: Hand was a mega-recruit coming out of high school, had to wait his turn behind a bevy of future National Football League d-linemen, then got hurt has a senior. "I would never put myself before my mom". Can Allen's flaws be fixed by coaching, or is this who he will always be?

Allen agreed that he got better as the week went along and hopefully opened some eyes.

"I think it's an easy comp to make", Savage, a former Browns GM, said of the ubiquitous Mayfield-Manziel comparison. "I came from a high school where state championships were the standard and then going to OU where winning's the standard".

"You dream of playing in the NFL". Here's to all of us learning a little more about the top prospects entering the upcoming draft after today's glorified exhibition. "I'm somebody who will go out there every down and give whatever I've got".

"They're loyal and true Browns fans, I respect that", Mayfield said.

To be fair people already knew somewhat of Carson Wentz before the Senior Bowl in 2016. How glorious. Mayfield will get more takes than anyone thanks to a combination of his Heisman Trophy, his brazen attitude, his off-field issues, his size, his skillset and the system he played in at Oklahoma.

They hadn't actually met before that afternoon since Mayfield was a late arrival.

"Everybody wants to portray the bad boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff, but I love the game of football". "Other than that, we're nothing alike. I love being around my teammates, and I love leading and having responsibility".

He reached a plea deal after an arrest on public intoxication charges during the last offseason.

Summary: That's two votes for Allen and one apiece for Key, Mayfield and Davenport. During 11-on-11 work, he made a few impressive deep throws and also fit the ball into tight windows in the intermediate areas.

Taking Rosen or Allen could begin a slow turnaround for an National Football League franchise that has been in the basement for years, but to really jumpstart things, why not take a look at Mayfield?

Mayfield remains the most accurate quarterback, and shows good feet.
