Team GB's Chef de Mission, Mike Hay, warned there were "no guarantees in winter sport" but added: "The target of a best ever Olympic Winter Games is indicative of just how far the athletes and their National Governing Bodies have progressed over the past four years".

The transmissions from PyeongChang, South Korea are being made available by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Japan's NHK and has immediately been picked up by the USA broadcaster NBC, which will offer the pictures to customers of its Comcast Xfinity service.

The medal target announcement was made at the Korean Cultural Centre UK in central London.

The men's jumpers will be led by 45-year-old Noriyuki Kasai, who is now poised to set a record by appearing in eight consecutive Winter Olympics.

South Korea ranked 11th in points with 1,397 points, but Spain, which was ninth with 1,858 points, was ruled ineligible for the team event because it didn't have any qualified skaters in the women's singles and pairs.
