The Wooden Award is college basketball's most prestigious annual award, given to Division I's best player in the nation who also meets certain GPA requirements.

Bridges was also on the preseason top 50 list. Ionescu leads the Ducks with 18.6 points, 7.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game and is second in rebounding average (7.2).

The list of 25 candidates includes two underclassmen:? Creighton's Doug McDermott won the Wooden Award following the 2013-14 season, while Maurice Watson Jr. was on the list of 25 last season but did not advance to the final cut.

OR sophomore point guard Sabrina Ionescu is one of 25 players who remain in contention for the John R. Wooden Award, given to women's college basketball's top player.

Bagley is the only player scoring more for Duke than Allen. The victor of the John R. Wooden Award will be announced in early April during the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show. The leading candidates will be further pared to 20 top players in early February.

Young, who was born in Texas Tech country in Lubbock, Texas, but grew up in the shadow of OU in Norman, has taken the country by surprise and by storm this season. The ten-man Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament.

Players not chosen to the preseason list are eligible for the Wooden Award midseason list, late season list, and the National Ballot. Maten and the Bulldogs return home Saturday to face SC at 1 p.m. ET.
