Georgia LB tells Baker Mayfield 'humble yourself' after CFP loss

The outstretched hand of senior linebacker Lorenzo Carter blocked the field goal to set the stage for a game-winning score.

And while Heisman Trophy victor Baker Mayfield stole the show - particularly with a decisive drive that tied the game in the fourth quarter that preceded a go-ahead defensive score - and Oklahoma built a 31-14 lead in the first half, Georgia rallied to score 24 consecutive points and pull ahead early in the fourth quarter.

But Michel gets an assist, according to his coaches and teammates.

This wasn't just a college football game. It goes back and forth.

"Sony came up to us and he was like, 'y'all keep doing what y'all do".

"I told him that he had to keep running and trying to hit the corner", Chubb said.

First of all, we still have another game to deal with.

"We had to believe", Fromm said of the Bulldogs effort in the second OT. Running backs coach Dell McGee did, too. "We knew we were a four quarter team". We just had to keep pounding. They're in special teams meetings, they compete.

The College Football Playoff has been around for four seasons now but no semifinal has been as entertaining as Monday's Rose Bowl.

Chubb and Michel combined for 326 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Seibert responded with a 33-yard field goal for Oklahoma.

And of course, Michel was in the middle of all that. "You can coach a long time and not get opportunities like this, and I've been blessed to be part of games of this magnitude and nature before". But it's safe to say they'll face more than 11 third downs against Alabama's defense, and they'll have to convert more of them to succeed. What was it you said to him and what did you see?

Michel downplayed his little halftime speech. "'No matter what happens, just keep fighting'". After defeating a high-octane offensive team like Oklahoma, Georgia should feel more comfortable in facing an Alabama squad that's patterned after they are (or vice versa) - hard-nosed, physical, defensive minded. Herschel Walker, who was in attendance Monday, will forever remain No. 1, or so it seems.

A short time later, Georgia scored, tying it up and sending the game into overtime.

While Bellamy told Mayfield to stay humble, the linebacker and the rest of the Georgia defense had a hard time containing the Oklahoma offense for most of the Rose Bowl.

While both are considered top-10 running back prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft by some, Chubb garnered most of the attention out of the two during their collegiate careers. "We just didn't put our best foot forward". We tackled a little better, and we played a little more aggressive.

At times it has been Chubb that stood out.

The national championship game is January 8 in Atlanta.

SONY MICHEL: I mean, when I scored a touchdown, I knew it was over.

As the player who helped breathe new life into an Oklahoma program that gone stale, before leading the Sooners to three consecutive Big 12 titles and two playoff appearances.

Mayfield battled flu-like symptoms all week but said he felt fine. "I don't know when it's going to sink in". "It's tough on these players when you add in the fact that we start school earlier than anybody in the country this week, and a lot of those other schools are not going back to school, so they won't have classes, they'll be able to have the kids over there all day, and we've got kids taking classes".
