Jack White Releases Two New Songs

Describing the character he takes on to perform "Connected By Love" - the lead single from his first proper new album in four years - Jack White makes comparisons to being shunted through a pair of curtains and onto a Broadway stage: "All of a sudden", he said to Rolling Stone, "you are told: 'Your name is this'". "Connected By Love" comes with the spastic and unpredictable album track "Respect Commander", which truly marks uncharted territory for White and leans heavily on the electronic influences. Both of these numbers also feature drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé/Q-Tip/John Legend), keyboardist Neal Evans (Soulive/Talib Kweli/John Scofield), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann and Regina McCrary of the gospel trio The McCrary Sisters.

As previously reported in Uncut, the album was produced by White and recorded at Sear Sound in New York City, Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and Third Man Studio in Nashville. "The 7" vinyl is also available via Third Man Records; the single arrives later this week at independent record stores globally. Check out both songs below.

The video for "Connected By Love", which was directed by Pasqual Gutierrez, adds some dimension to the lyrics and couches the song in much more macro terms, showing a series of families and individuals struggling in an R.E.M. He elaborated, "I just started humming notes out loud, staring out the window. And you don't really notice it as it's happening". "So I changed 'Infected" to 'Connected" and then started to feed off of that".

Those of you who have been waiting patiently for a follow-up to Jack White's "Lazaretto", your prayers have been answered.
