If Chelsea were to secure a move for Emerson, how could he fit in at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea have enquired over the availability of Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, having grown frustrated in their pursuit of Alex Sandro, the Evening Standard have reported.

The Chelsea boss is eager for the club to bring in another player capable of providing cover at left wing-back in order to ease the strain on Marcos Alonso - who has started and completed all but three of Chelsea's 23 Premier League games this season.

Palmieri, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, has barely featured for Roma this season due to a knee injury and has played just 16 minutes of football in Serie A so far.

Palmieri, 23, is also an Italian citizen which means he does not need a work permit to play in the United Kingdom which is helping with talks.

"Now the two clubs are talking, we'll see if they are successful".

"Conte is a top coach, one of the best and most successful coaches in the world".

Conte has signed £15 million midfielder Ross Barkley during this transfer window and is also keen on a striker to provide competition for first choice Alvaro Morata.

Mediaset Premium, on the other hand, maintains Chelsea are trying to sign the Brazilian-Italian on loan with an option to buy that would become mandatory after a certain number of appearances.
