Liverpool vehicle park fire: Insurance payouts estimated at £20m


The fire happened right next to Liverpool's Echo Arena, which was hosting the Liverpool International Horse Show at the time the fire started.

These were the words of Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson, in a message to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), as he called for speedy claims processing in the aftermath of the New Year's Eve fire that destroyed more than a thousand vehicles.

Firefighters are still at the scene of the blaze which started just after 5pm in one vehicle on the third floor before the flames spread to other cars.

The auto park, which sits opposite the Echo Arena, became engulfed in flames after a fire in a Land Rover spread throughout all floors of the building.

The last performance of Liverpool, England's famous International Horse Show on December 31 had to be canceled because of a blaze in the multi-story carpark next to Echo Arena.

Nobody got injured, be it humans or horses.

Initial investigations have suggested an accidental fire within a vehicle caused. The popular horse show was cancelled because of the fire, which was brought under control early Monday morning.

Emergency services have released photos of a huge vehicle park fire that raged out of control in Liverpool in the United Kingdom on New Year's Eve.

Several horses set to appear in the show were led to safety from the ground floor. "We would also like to thank the people who kindly provided transport for customers to enable them to travel home, as well as Liverpool City Council for establishing a relief centre for those needing shelter".

Sunday's evening session was the final event in the horse show.

Next up on the arena's schedule is "Fast and Furious Live", Jan. 11-12, followed by "Celebrating Sgt Pepper: Live on Jan. 13".

He said: "At around 5pm, the announcer told us that that there was fire in the auto park next door".
