Pelosi slams 'five white guys' negotiating immigration deal

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi signaled there could be some strife within the Democratic Party when she took a shot at members of both parties who are working on immigration legislation.

"The comment is offensive".

The "five white guys" in question are Hoyer, White House chief of staff John Kelly, California House Republican Rep Kevin McCarthy, Democratic Sen Richard Durbin of IL and Republican Sen John Cornyn of Texas.

Pelosi is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a Harris County Democratic Party's annual fundraising dinner on February 18.

The group has been meeting with Trump in an attempt to save Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which Trump ended past year.

Hoyer quickly fired back at Pelosi, telling Politico in a statement, "That comment is offensive".

"The five white guys I call them, you know", Pelosi quipped, complaining that there were not enough minorities involved in the immigration debate.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's comments related to tax savings have changed dramatically over the past seven years: She previously lavished praise on former President Barack Obama's $40 payroll tax cut, but now dismisses the $1,000 bonuses doled out by corporate America as a result of the recently signed GOP tax overhaul. Are they going to open a hamburger stand next or what?' she joked, referencing the Five Guys burger chain.

"You have to understand, in our caucus we are blessed with great diversity-the understanding of the issues, the ability to translate policy into the lives of people, the sensitivity even on the wording is really important for people who have been engaged in these issues to be there at the table", Pelosi said.

The intraparty squabble begins as Senate negotiators announced they have reached a preliminary deal that involves only Dreamers, as DACA recipients are known, and border security, according to Politico.
