Instead, Eden Hazard of Chelsea is the third member of an attacking trident in a team dominated by Real Madrid stars after Zinedine Zidane's men retained the Champions League and beat Barca to winning LaLiga previous year.

The team is voted for by fans with nearly nine million votes cast and lines up in a 4-4-2 formation. The European football's governing body on Thursday revealed the star-studded team on their twitter account.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard appeared in 38% of teams, while Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne featured in an impressive 52.2% of teams voted by the fans.

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo featured in 70% of teams and teammate Sergio Ramos was the most popular pick, appearing in 73.3% of sides.

Thoughts on UEFA's Team of the Year for 2017?

A new voting record was set. A poll of users on UEFA.com picked Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Marcelo among the best players of a year ago. Players from the Spanish league dominated the team with five Champions League winning Real Madrid players finding mentions. He was picked for a fifth time and is just one appearance behind leading keeper Iker Casillas.

Nearly 8.8million fans voted in this year's poll to pick the UEFA Team of the Year, and the governing body has revealed some shock results. "De Bruyne becomes the first ever Manchester City FC player to have made the XI, while Hazard was in sensational form for Belgium during the European Qualifiers - the 27-year-old scoring six goals in eight games as well as recording five assists", said the UEFA report.
