Senior Bowl: Baker Mayfield already turning heads

It's been eight years since a Heisman victor last attended the Senior Bowl, and Mayfield will be the first since Florida fullback Tim Tebow to make the voyage to Mobile.

-Falk also showed good accuracy on most of his throws but his lack of top-notch velocity was all-too apparent in comparison, at least in comparison to Mayfield and Allen. These traits have teams intrigued despite considerable reservations from tape enthusiasts who warn that Allen is a project player.

Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage said National Football League teams wanted to see him do things like work out of a huddle and go under center. On the North team, Lazard has some good quarterbacks throwing to him, especially in Wyoming's Josh Allen and Mayfield.

"It's going to be fun competing with Baker", Allen said. This is, I think, why this is such a great opportunity.

The Senior Bowl is the largest collegiate All-Star Game. A year ago they were battling in Mobile to see the field. He led the nation in passing yards (4904 yds) and passing yards per game (377).

For a moment, Baker Mayfield pulled off his crimson Oklahoma helmet, and the swarm of media at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Tuesday lunged forward toward the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.

One player that could be quite the find for the Silver and Black in the middle of the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft would be Auburn Tigers redshirt senior safety Tray Matthews. They get overlooked by the major universities, and they end up at the mid-majors or at the FCS or lower and then they emerge over the course of their college careers.

It's easy to understand the comparison between the two because it's been staring us in the face for the last couple of years.

The Broncos had specifically requested Mayfield for their roster as the team is in the market for a new quarterback.

"A lot of scouts here, they've heard of me", said Myles Pierce, an inside linebacker from The Citadel who was a prep standout at Daphne. Shaquem Griffin is a guy who runs and make plays.

In his senior season, Phillips picked up 98 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in a Pac-12 conference that was littered with talented offensive players.

Another guy not to overlook is Marcus Davenport.

"If I'm fortunate enough to become a Cleveland Brown, you can expect everything from me", Allen said Monday on Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan.

Jones capped his historic college football career with a standout performance in the 2017 Senior Bowl, catching six passes for 68 receiving yards and a touchdown. As a junior he had 92-receptions for nearly 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns.

That left him wanting to prove that he's "way more accurate than that shows". OT Brett Toth from Army, and DT Poona Ford from Texas both practiced last week and played in the East-West Shrine game in St. Petersburg, Florida last weekend.

Hand, a Woodbridge High School graduate, played four years at defensive end for Alabama.

But while the 6-foot-5, 237-pounder admitted he had some "easy misses", he also said that was to be expected a bit while all the quarterbacks and receivers were getting adjusted to one another and the playbook at the same time.
