Target Corp. bought Shipt Inc. last month for $550 million in cash.

Target stores in South Florida are scheduled February 1 to begin delivery of groceries and other products through its recent acquisition, Shipt.

Target and the home delivery service Shipt are offering what they hope will be a new reason never to leave the house.

Grocery delivery service Shipt and Target have teamed up to begin same-day delivery to many areas of Florida. By the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories at Target, according to Shipt. Florida will be one of the first states to get the new option with Target expecting to roll it out to most of their stores by the 2018 holiday season.

Shipt is a membership-based service, with an annual fee of $99.

"Floridas growing community of Shipt members continues to be loyal and enthusiastic about the service", Bill Smith, CEO of Shipt, said in a release.

On Feb. 8, delivery from Target will be available on the Treasure Coast, Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Gulf Shores, Jacksonville, Naples, Sarasota, Orlando, Space Coast, St. Augustine and Tallahassee.

"This acquisition will mark an important milestone in an ambitious strategy we laid out in early 2017, which included strengthening Target's supply chain and digital capabilities to make shopping at Target easier, more reliable and more convenient for our guests", Mulligan stated in a blog on the retailer's website back in December.

Those wanting delivery from their local Target store should sign up online at Shipt.com, or download the Shipt mobile app on their smartphone.
