17 shot dead in Florida high school


The Broward County Sheriff's Office said there were at least 14 victims at a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, though it did not say how many were injured or killed. Authorities say he opened fire outside the high school, which enrolls more than 3,200 students, then continued his rampage inside the building. Scott is traveling to Broward County now to be briefed by emergency management officials and law enforcement.

Cruz was arrested without incident after he was located off of school grounds in a nearby community.

Another told CNN affiliate WSVN he thought a fire drill was going on since the school just went through the practice the day before. "The roads were blocked".

"We could not have been more prepared for this situation, which is what makes it so frustrating", Falkowski said. They say "Some of the things. are very, very disturbing". "It was frightful. I was so scared; I didn't know what to do", Girao said. "It was insane and my daughter wasn't answering her phone". "It seemed like it was a prolonged shooting".

"She did not speak about how it started, however, I did speak with other people", he continued.
