The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted a child porn racket in which pornographic videos and pictures were being circulated through a WhatsApp group called "KidsXXX".

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday busted the global child pornography racket that was being run through WhatsApp with its members spread across 18 countries and arrested one person. CBI officials said he is a commerce graduate who is unemployed and that his father works in a jewellery shop.

Verma was booked along with four others accomplices - Nafees Reza and Zahid of Delhi, Satyendra Om Prakash Chauhan of Mumbai and Adarsh of Noida.

The officials said that some members of the WhatsApp group are spread globally including the US, Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka. The arrested group administrator, Nikhil Verma, is resident of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh.

The agency conducted searches across Delhi, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and seized incriminating material from computers, hard disks and mobile phones.

Investigators are looking into whether it is an organised syndicate shooting child sexual abuse videos and selling it in the virtual world.

Details of investigations done by the CBI will also be shared with their counterparts in these countries.

The agency is carrying on with its investigation to locate other members and the group present in India and overseas, they said.

A case has been registered against group members for uploading and sharing child porn videos and photographs under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The SC had in 2016 urged the Centre to stop access to websites featuring child pornography.
