Fire breaks out at National Assembly


There is a fire outbreak in the National Assembly.

He, however, moved for the adjournment of the sittings.

After adoption of votes and proceedings, Ibrahim Gobir, Sokoto-APC, moved that the plenary be adjourned due to the "unconducive" state of the chamber.

The Senate's resolution to adjourn was to allow maintenance officers to properly fix the faulty electrical and cooling systems.

Findings showed that the air conditioner in chamber broke down on Wednesday.

A fire alarm was triggered when huge smoke was noticed at the technical room located at the complex basement.The alarm forced staff and visitors to scamper for safety. Men of the fire service were said to have responded promptly to avert any escalation of the fire.

The smoke quickly spread even into the chamber, forcing the lawmakers to feel uncomfortable.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known while efforts were made to put it out.

There was no one hurt in the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who on the motion adjourned ‎the plenary till Tuesday next week.
