Kozhikode: CPM leader among 6 arrested for assaulting pregnant woman


"The woman started bleeding incessantly after being kicked by the local CPM leader".

She said the police refused to lodge their complaint the first time they approached them due to political pressure.

Kodanchery, Kozhikode: The Kerala police on Thursday arrested six people, including a CPM branch secretary, in connection with the assault on a pregnant woman in Kodenchery, forcing her to undergo an abortion.

According to NDTV report, On January 28, the seven men allegedly barged into Josana Sibby's house and thrashed her husband over a land dispute. These party goons are pressurising me to withdraw the complaint after the incident and they have all the support of the party. After an investigation, the police arrested six persons today, while one accused was arrested on February 8. The main culprit in the case is still roaming free.

The woman had repotedly called the police 15 minutes before the attack and asked for help. Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case.

"The local party workers are coming here daily, asking me to withdraw the complaint against Thampy", woman's husband said referring to the CPM leader. However, the family is adamant that they will fight the case till the end.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) has denied the involvement of their party leader in the incident.

The incident came to light after Josna and her husband sat on a dharna in front of the Kodancherry police station on Wednesday, demanding an action against the criminals.
