Marking the first major change of the new front office, and initiating the beginning of a likely rebuild, Payton has been traded to the Suns for a second-round draft pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Payton, in his fourth season, can provide the Suns above-average passing skills and the ability to get in the lane. The organization had been hopeful to find a young playmaker to play alongside shooting guard Devin Booker, who has been sidelined with rib and hip issues during the last few games.
Payton started all 44 games in which he has appeared for the Magic this season, averaging 13 points, 6.3 assists, four rebounds and 1.5 steals over 28.6 minutes per game.
The Phoenix Suns may be struggling on the court itself, but the team pulled off what has to be described as a tremendous trade on Thursday. However, Payton has the potential to become a decent starting point guard in the National Basketball Association.
