Air Canada says it has restored its computer systems after a morning outage led to delays across the airline's operations. Reports indicated the problem is nationwide. According to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, Air Canada was experiencing almost 170 total flight delays as of Monday afternoon. A number of Canadian airports are also reporting congestion at local terminals.
Officials say they have implemented temporary measures to "maintain a limited operation" while the airline's IT department works to identify the issue and restore service.
One Newfoundlander in Boston tells VOCM News he has been trying to reschedule his return flight to the province, but to no avail.
"Today's computer issues have had a wide impact on our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience", reads a tweet from the airline.
If you are heading to Vancouver Airport (YVR) Monday and flying on Air Canada, be prepared for a long wait. For customers who wish to change their travel plans, Air Canada has put in place a flexible rebooking policy to enable customers to change their flights without change fees on a space available basis.
