YouTube first introduced a dark theme on its platform last summer with an update to the web-app and is introducing it to mobile for the first time with this update after a brief testing period. That's certainly the case with YouTube's "Dark theme", which arrives today on the iOS version of the app. This feature debuted on YouTube's desktop site a year ago. Though the feature started as part of a limited test in April 2017, Dark Mode later rolled out to all YouTube users in May along with the site's Material Design visual overhaul. Nothing else seems to have been implemented except for this new dark theme, but one thing that's worth mentioning is the update will only be available to iOS users initially. Users can easily activate this feature by tapping on the account icon, settings and then dark theme. The feature was heavily requested for mobile apps after the launch on desktop.
Reportedly, dark mode on Android is coming "soon", but whether that means days or weeks, we can't yet say. At the time, the feature wasn't made available to all users, nor was it officially announced by the company. The app will automatically switch to a darker hue, with no app restart necessary for the change to go into effect. Have you ever opened the YouTube app in the middle of the night?
