65th National Film Awards: Sridevi wins best actress award for 'Mom'

While the Jury's decision will be officially announced later, I am happy to inform that the National Award for Best Film has gone to an Assamese film Village Rockstars scripted and directed by debutante Rima Das. During the announcement, Shekhar Kapur said he insisted to the rest of the jury that Sridevi should not be given the award only because she passed away. Last year, Akshay Kumar bagged the Best Actor award for Rustom. Actor Fahadh Faasil, meanwhile, won the Best Supporting Actor award for the film, directed by Dileesh Pothan.

Produced by Manish Mundra and starring Rajkummar Rao, the film revolves around a young government clerk, who is sent on election duty to a Maoist-controlled town.

The 65th National Film Awards have been announced with Bollywood film "Newton" emerging as the Best Film and music maestro AR Rahman emerging as the biggest victor.

Baahubali won the Best Action Film.

Thondimuthalam Driksakshiyum won the Best Malayalam Film Award, and the award for the Best Screenplay (Sajeev Pazhoor). In 2013, he won the State award for Best actor for the films Artist and North 24 Kaatham.

Veteran singer K J Yesudas was recognised as the best male singer for his song "Poy Maranja Kalam" in the Malayalam film "Viswasapoorva M Mansoor", while the best female singer went to Shashaa Tirupati for the song "Vaan" for "Kaatru Veliyidai".

"It was not because of the relationship we shared but because she was the most deserving candidate for her portrayal in "Mom"," said Shekhar Kapur, this year's feature film jury head, said.

Marathi film Murakhiya, Odia film Hello RC, Malayalam film Take Off received a special mention award and actress Parvathy too got a special mention.

The 65th National Film Awards were announced on Friday.
