7 inmates dead, 17 hurt in SC prison fight

In February, one inmate killed another at the prison.

After a four day standoff with inmates holding 42 hostages, NY state police moved in to retake the prison on orders of governor Nelson Rockefeller.

No officers were injured, said Jeffrey Taillon, communications director for the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

7 inmates were killed and 17 others were injured in a huge riot that broke out Sunday night at a jail in sc, the authorities claimed.

Logan said he just finished identifying all the dead Monday and is working to notify relatives.

They say the incident began around 7:15 pm Sunday and involved multiple inmate-on-inmate altercations in three housing units.

"If everybody has an uprising, you are always going to be understaffed", Logan said.

The maximum-security facility houses about 1,500 inmates, some of South Carolina's most violent and longest-serving offenders.

In March, inmates at the prison held an officer hostage after taking control of a dorm room, The State reported. Nikki Haley in 2013 to lead the state prison agency.

Twelve inmates were killed by other prisoners in SC in 2017, according to public documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Steve Bailey, who writes columns for The Post and Courier of Charleston.
