Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today staged a protest here, seeking resignations of BJP ministers in the state for allegedly cowering down before Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti after she refused recommending a CBI probe in the Kathua rape-and-murder case.
Earlier in the day, Lal Singh also sought a CBI probe and said what is wrong with it. "Now, such a perception is being created that I deemed it fit to tender my resignation". I want to assure the country that no culprit will be spared, complete justice will be done.
"Naari Virodhi (anti-woman) Adityanath has not only utterly failed in his constitutional duties as the Chief Minister and abused the oath of office but also played an important protagonist in safeguarding the interests of the rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar", he added. These two ministers had gone to pacify the people, but subsequently their presence was mistaken for trying to shield the accused. "Therefore, keeping in mind the perception and general situation, the two BJP leaders, after holding consultations with the prime minister and other senior leaders of the party, chose to submit their resignations". Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Saturday said that the Central government is pondering over bringing amendments to the existing POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act which will award death penalty to rapists. Coming under pressure from the local public they spoke at a gathering. Speaking to ANI, Madhav also blamed the Congress of being behind the agitations in Jammu. She said a sense of justice had been reinforced in the state and urged "New Delhi to wake up to the Kashmir cauldron". "But the MLAs were misguided".
The rape victim had disappeared from a spot near her house in Kathua on January 10 and a week later, her body was found in the same area.
In wake of such incidents, it is necessary to change the thinking of society.
