CBI gets Unnao rape survivor's statement recorded in court

As the rape survivor has accused the MLA and his accomplices of raping her on multiple occasion in June, 2017, UP police failed to collect any scientific evidence in the case.

However, her uncle accused the Unnao administration of conniving to save the legislator. While on the other side, victim's sister said that now when the Prime Minister has ordered special probe in the case, they got a new hope for justice.

Shashi Singh another key accused in Unnao Rape Case and a close associate of BJP MLA Kuldeep Sing Sengar, was arrested by CBI yesterday. When asked when Sengar would be arrested, Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar told reporters here that the CBI would take a decision on this. The victim had charged gangrape on her in her complaint.

According to CBI sources, she narrated her ordeal and sequence of events that unfolded since June 4 past year when she was allegedly raped by Sengar.

After a massive public outrage over the inaction of UP Police, the case was handed over to the CBI on April 12.

The second pertains to rioting, in which four locals have been booked, and the alleged killing of the victim's father in judicial custody.

Earlier in July, the Himachal Pradesh High Court transferred the two cases to the CBI after the custodial death of Suraj Singh came to light. Since the murder charge was added later by the state police, it does not reflect in the CBI FIR. According to the post-mortem report, he had suffered serious injuries.

After the special investigation team headed by additional DG (Lucknow zone) Rajeev Krishna submitted its interim report late on Wednesday evening, an FIR in the rape case was lodged on Thursday on the basis of a written complaint filed by the mother of the rape survivor.

In another development, it transpired during the victim's medical examination that she was not a minor when the rape took place in June, 2017.

Later, UP CM Yogi Adityanath assured of strict action on criminals, no matter how influential they are.
