Manchester City Emerge English Premier League Champions

Manchester City's players were celebrating last night after they were unexpectedly crowned champions thanks to Manchester United's shock home defeat to West Brom.

902: That Manchester City won the title is impressive enough, but in a credit to the way by which Guardiola's side dominated, the team also set an Opta record for the most passes recorded in a single Premier League match, as City ran circles around Chelsea in a 1-0 win on March 4.

A week after City surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to United and squander the chance to wrap up the title in ideal style against their arch-rivals, it was relegation-bound West Brom who served it up on a plate.

But Guardiola believes the 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge was a pivotal moment when Kevin De Bruyne's goal saw them pick up a deserved three points after dominating against the defending champions.

Can someone please go and let the Premier League, the FA, UEFA, FIFA and the Court for Arbitration of Sport no about this please and help get the title taken off of City. We won few games. I kind of want to see how the reaction will be because I've never retained a title. As many as nine players were booked in the match, but this game really was the beginning of City's climb to the top as they showed that they had the character to clinch maximum points when it seems impossible to do so. "So happy to be able to share another trophy with our fantastic fans!" tweeted City's captain Vincent Kompany. Sometimes you have to do these sort of things to believe 'wow, we are good too, like the others'.

Kompany has overcome persistent injury problems in recent seasons to remain a part of Pep Guardiola's plans.

"Winning at Stamford Bridge gave us a feeling of, 'OK, against the last champions, we are able to come here and play'".

Reflecting on the latest round of Premier League matches, Richard Jolly selects his team of the week. A dutiful cog in the machine during the opening weeks, the Belgium midfielder kicked into gear and City's season duly took flight. The City stalwart, who is in the last six months of his current contract, has had minimal game time under Guardiola this season, and has been linked with clubs in China and Turkey. It's amusing how fortunes can change over the course of the season, as United are now accused of playing boring football. Six years later, the finale was much more underwhelming, with Rodriguez nodding in from a corner to silence the majority of Old Trafford and set up one of the most surprising wins of the season. If you read what the people say this week we have to improve.
