The league triumph was delayed following the surprise 3-2 defeat at the Etihad Stadium last week but after City beat Spurs 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday, coupled with Manchester United losing 1-0 to West Brom, the league's worst team, City are officially champions.

It was a far cry from his trophy-less first season with City and Kompany said Guardiola´s tenacious attitude led them to the summit.

City captain Vincent Kompany was watching the match with his family, including his United supporting father-in-law, and the club sent someone round ready to broadcast the scenes on the off chance that United slipped up. I've never retained a title'.

Vincent Kompany says it's too early to say whether they are the best EPL team ever. "I'm proud of everyone involved".

Kompany was joined by Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Fabian Delph and Kyle Walker joined the skipper at a packed Hale Wine Bar, where the players were seen belting out Oasis' Wonderwall and being serenaded by supporters expressing their delight and gratitude. Today was a day for the blues and there have been more days for the reds.

Kompany has overcome persistent injury problems in recent seasons to remain a part of Pep Guardiola's plans.

The Spaniard won three La Liga titles on the bounce with Barcelona between 2009 and 2012. Any player playing under him has had success because the way he has improved them as individuals.

"He has been able to transfer to the team that hunger and desire to never be satisfied". One team was dominant in Germany and one had Messi, but we are nothing without the team'. It's just one title. "We want to stay humble about the fact that it's not a dynasty.it's one title and there is still so much work to be done before the full potential is unlocked".

"But in our defence, we can only be judged on a period of time, so we need, two, three or four years in a row and if at the end of this we are consistent like we have been this season then perhaps, but we have taken one step that's all we can do at the moment". "I don't like to wait for a team to lose, so it was a different kind of experience today".

"He's a better loser than a victor, I have got to be honest!"
