Police said a case under relevant sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, and provisions of the Arms Act has been registered. A police source said that Verma sustained injuries in his knee.
"Some unidentified persons fired shots at Parmish last night at Sector 91 in Mohali when he was returning home".
A man by the name of Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, via Facebook post, is claiming to be behind Verma's shooting. The singer was reportedly on his way back home with a friend from Chandigarh's Elante Mall in his Toyota Fortuner SUV late Friday night when he was attacked. Recalling the horrific incident, Parmish, who is now out of danger took to social media to say, "With blessing of Baba Nanak I am ok now, I have no enimity with anyone, I wish no mother in Punjab has to cry the way my mother cried today", he said in Punjabi. As per sources, both Parmish and his friend were rushed to the Fortis Hospital in Phase 8 and the singer is now placed in intensive care. Verma was taken to hospital when the bullet hit his leg. In the post, Dilpreet said that he is lucky to be alive but had warned him that if he meets face to face, Parmish will face the consequences.
Apart from Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, members of the Sampat Nehra gang have also claimed responsibility for the attack, according to news agency IANS. He has uploaded a picture of himlself with a gun along with a picture of Parmish with a cross drawn on it.
The post was shared on Facebook more than 3,000 times and received over 8,000 likes.
The gangster's motive to claim responsibility for the shooting was unclear.
Parmish Verma is a famous Punjabi singer with his smash hit "Gaal ni kadni" having been viewed over 118 million times on YouTube.
