Togadia legacy ends, VHP gets its new worldwide president

"It is very shocking and saddening to see such a grand VHP that we all built to this fantastic level being made to bend, not for Hindu well-being but for individual whims and fancies of some powermongers", said Togadia after congratulating the new team, according to The Indian Express.

Togadia said that he would sit on the fast in Ahmedabad from Tuesday with demands like legislation for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, common civil code, cow protection, 1.5% of comprehensive cost of MSP to farmers for all crops and jobs to Hindu youths. For the welfare of Hindus, I left my home and my lucrative medical practice.

"I got disenchanted with this government in the last four years". He also disclosed that he will start indefinite fast in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Claiming that scores of Hindus were killed in police firing during the post-Godhra riots, he said he could not understand how it could happen when "Narendrabhai" (Narendra Modi) was the chief minister. But he called gau-rakshaks "gundas" (goons). "This hadn't even happened under the Congress government", Togadia had said. Togadia, however, alleged irregularities in the exercise.

Former VHP leader Pravin Togadia on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "going overseas when daughters in India are not safe".

During the tussle within state BJP between Narendra Modi and former chief minister Keshubhai Patel, Togadia, who belongs to the Patel community, was believed to have backed Keshubhai.

Togadia has lately been at loggerheads with senior BJP leaders and had claimed that there was threat to his life. The newly elected VHP president wasted no time in nominating Alok Kumar as replacement for Togadia.
