A mother-son duo from Raghunath Nagar locality of Wagle Estate in Thane city have been today arrested by the city police on the alleged charges of attempt to burn alive a Thane housewife aged 30, the city police said today. In their bid to escape, the duo assaulted and kicked the pregnant woman, Pattamundai police said.
As per the complaint, the incident occurred at around 2 am April 11 when the woman was in her house along with her two minor daughters.
The accused were identified as Nidhiram Mallick and Prasant Swain.Nidhiram and Prasant had allegedly entered the house of 33-year-old victim Manasi Swain on Wednesday night with an intention to loot gold ornaments and cash. "Even though I don't know exactly what he's going to present, there are some words that will come out and I will react to it so when I hear it on air I'm not surprised", she explained. She gave birth to a stillborn fetus at the hospital.
Her husband of 15 years, Giedrius described her as a "wonderful mother" to their children, aged nine and 12, and said they were a "very happy family" in a statement issued by the force.
The family then approached the Delhi police and a case under IPC (Indian Penal Code) Sections 354D (stalking), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 344 (wrongful confinement for ten or more days), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 376 (rape) was registered against the accused.
The police said that the accused would keep her in the room's loft and would go out after locking her.
