The National Weather Service lifted the winter weather advisory for Suffolk, Norfolk, and northern Bristol counties Sunday morning, but cold temperatures are still expected, an official said. As the center of low pressure passes over and moves east of the Chicago area, snow will continue over these northernmost counties, and as the afternoon progresses, rain will gradually change over to snow from west to east across the remainder of northeast IL into northwest Indiana. One to 3 inches of snow and sleet are expected in Western New York, and up to 5 inches in the Adirondacks.

Temperatures are expected to warm above freezing Sunday afternoon.

The latest, local NWS forecast calls for rain, freezing rain and sleet Saturday night and into Sunday morning, followed by rain after about 11 a.m.

The advisory is also in effect for Tompkins, Madison, Chenango, and Onondaga counties.

Despite 60-degree temperatures on Friday, it looks like winter weather will be making a return to the Bay State this weekend.

"Northeasterly winds will result in significant wave action, which may result in lakeshore flooding and erosion along the southwestern shores of Lake Ontario", the weather service said.
