He has also helped his national team enter this year's World Cup in Russian Federation after years of Egypt's absence from the tournament. Colombia goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon was 43 when he played at the last World Cup in Brazil.

The Egyptian forward joined the Reds from Serie A outfit, Roma last summer and he has scored 44 goals in all competitions in his first term at the club.

On Sunday, Salah set a new single-season Premier League scoring record after notching his 32nd goal of the season for Liverpool, surpassing the old mark of 31 goals he had shared with Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Led by Argentine tactician Cuper, seven-time African champions Egypt are housed in Group A with hosts Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. A final 23-member squad must be submitted to Federation Internationale de Football Association by early June.

In an unsurprising move, Mohamed Salah was also picked in the squad.

"We hope that he will exploit the progress he's made as a striker at Liverpool", said Cuper on Monday. "The journey is hard". Hossam Ashour, Moamen Zakaria, Mohammed Magdy and Hussein el-Shahat were all left out.

"They are hard games that are important for us", Cuper said through an interpreter.
