John Woo Remaking The Killer With Lupita Nyong'o From Black Panther

Actress Lupita Nyong'o attends the "Dirty Computer" screening at The Film Society of Lincoln Center, Walter Reade Theatre on April 23, 2018 in New York City.

In the original, Mob assassin Jeffrey (Chow Yun-Fat) is no ordinary hired gun; the best in his business, he views his chosen profession as a calling rather than simply a job. To pay for the procedure, Ah Jong agrees to perform one last hit.

Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o has emerged as the favourite to lead the cast of movie legend John Woo's The Killer remake.

John Woo returns to direct the remake on his own film which comes from Universal Pictures. eOne's Mark Gordon (Source Code, Saving Private Ryan) and Matt Jackson will produce with Luc Etienne serving as executive producer. It's confirmed that Nyong'o will fulfill the role of the assassin that was played by Chow Yun-fat.

The remake will follow the same beats, with Nyong'o's hitwoman accidentally blinding another woman. The film is slated to being production later this year in France and Germany. The movie is reportedly being fast-tracked, but hopefully, they take the time and care to have this top the original and all the films it inspired, which will be no easy feat.

Woo will be working with Eran Creevy who will be penning the script based on a draft from 10 Cloverfield Lane's Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Vice president of production Sara Scott will oversee production for Universal.
