Letter carriers to collect food on Saturday

To donate, you should leave non-perishable food items in a bag near your mailbox Saturday before your letter carrier arrives. You can also drop of food donations at your local post office.

The Annual National Association of Letter Carrier's Stamp Out Hunger food drive for the Community Action Coalition (CAC) is from 1:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

If everyone who reads this blog donates just one item for this food drive, we could help them collect a ton of food!

Hoffman says she gets personal joy when she comes across generous donations.

Last year's food drive resulted in over 71 million pounds of food collected by Postal Service carriers nationally, feeding an estimated 30 million people. "Last year's food drive brought in close to 21,000 pounds, so we are looking to exceed that this year".

Making a donation is easy. Patrons can use the blue bags, which have been supplied, or can use their own plastic shopping bags, so long as they label them for the food drive if they place them by their mailboxes for collection.

Joshua Peterson, the president of the NALC Branch 828, said in a press release the epxerience is one all the letter carriers look forward to each year. "So, everything that we collect goes right here into our own community", Near said.

If you're interested in helping, the food bank is looking for extra volunteers to reach their goal, which is around 100,000 pounds of food. The hope this year, he said, is to double that. "Really, we love when people think about what it takes to put together a meal and pick up two or three items for that meal".
