By incorporating key AI capabilities and performance advancements, the Snapdragon 710 is created to transform our customers products into the ultimate personal assistant, enhancing critical everyday consumer experiences, such as high-end camera features that will benefit from on-device high-speed AI processing, without sacrificing battery life."-Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc".

Just like the Snapdragon 845, the Snapdragon 710 is also a processor that uses 8-cores. Yet the 710 is not as powerful as the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845. Firstly, it uses Adreno 616 GPU, which can yield 40% reduction in power consumption for both gaming and 4K HDR playback as well as 20% reduction in power consumption while streaming videos as compared to Snapdragon 660.

The Snapdragon 710 platform also supports 4K HDR playback for viewing HDR videos and apps, which has only been seen so far in the 800-tier. Overall performance improvement is rated at 25%.

We've seen Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 series processors powering mid-range Android phones for a while now, but today Qualcomm unveiled its next processor destined for the mid-tier.

The US chipmaker said on Thursday that the Snapdragon 710 "is designed with highly efficient architectures for artificial intelligence, featuring a multi-core AI Engine and neural network processing capabilities". Compared to the Snapdragon 660 chipset, the new chip provides twice the improvement in AI applications. It also brings more brightness, wider colour gamut, and colour depth to the Snapdragon 710.

Battery: The chipset offers Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ technology, though it should be noted that the manufacturer must license the technology from Qualcomm to activate it on their devices.

The Snapdragon 710 SoC comes with X15 LTE modem which Qualcomm says is 2.5 times faster compared to Cat 7 LTE on competing chipsets. The chip supports the latest 4G LTE connectivity improvements including 4x4 MIMO which allows for 70% faster download speeds in areas with a weak signal. The new Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP claims to capture more vibrant photos and videos, thanks to its updated architecture. It also brings better support for low light photography, noise reduction, autofocus, image stabilization, and bokeh effects.

Here is a table comparing the 660, 710 and the 845 side by side complementing the fact that with the 710, Qualcomm is getting closer to flagship grade mobile platforms even for mid-range devices. The processor also offers new Wi-Fi features, Bluetooth 5, Qualcomm Broadcast Audio, and Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus.
