With it, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore was also elevated to the post of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister.

According to a press communiqué issued from the President's Secretariat, the President of India, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, directed the reallocation of portfolios among the members of the Union Council of Ministers.

After the Modi government came to power in 2014, Irani's educational qualifications, or the lack of it, made national headlines.

"Piyush Goyal given additional charge of Finance Ministry till Arun Jaitley recovers, Rajyavardhan Rathore new Information & Broadcasting Minister", news agency ANI tweeted.

Irani has had constant run-ins with controversy since she became a minister, and this is one of the major reasons the PM has changed her portfolio twice, say sources. He had been the junior minister for I&B early in his tenure, before being given independent charge of youth affairs and sports. Alphons will now only keep the tourism ministry. This is the second time that she has been removed from her ministry position. Goyal is also in-charge of the railways and coal ministry.

Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State, has been relieved of the charge of Minister of State of Electronics and Information Technology. He underwent a successful kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday and is stable after the over four-hour-long surgery, hospital authorities said. Meanwhile, S S Ahluwalia will look after Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
