The Government of Tamil Nadu have constituted a new Board for School Examination viz "Tamil Nadu State Board of School Examination" by merging the existing two separate boards (1) Board of Secondary Education and (2) Board of Higher Secondary Examinations. This year, of the 6754 schools that took part in the exams, 1907 schools reported 100% pass percentage. Virudhnagar topped all the districts with a pass percentage of 97.85.

The toppers name will not be disclosed this year. "CBSE is already following this, and why because other students who get even one mark less (than the rank holders) face severe stress. The practice of announcing the first three rank holders at the state and district level is being done away with".
