Among capitals, Greater Mumbai was ranked the cleanest, while Rajasthan's Jaipur was judged the fastest mover state capital.

For the second consecutive year, Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been declared as the cleanest city under the Swachh Survekshan 2018. While there were widespread hopes that the city would improve its 3rd rank from past year and bag the top spot, the recently revealed data has proved otherwise.

Vijayawada was ranked India's "cleanest big city" with a population of over 10 lakh, while Tirupati was the best city in "Solid Waste Management", having a population between one to three lakhs. It was expected that Chandigarh will get a good rank in this Swachh Survekshan as the city had done a lot to regain its spot in the top cleanest cities of India from the past couple of years.

Shri Hardeep Puri, Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs has congratulated the winners of Swachh Survekshan 2018 while announcing the results at the National Media Centre here today. In the cities with less than one lakh population, Siddipet was selected as the cleanest city, while Peerzadiguda was awarded as the best city in innovation and best practices. This year, 35% weightage was given to citizen feedback, 30% weightage to direct observation and 45 % percent weightage has been given to service level progress. In 2017, the scope of Swachchh Survekshan was enlarged to cover 434 cities having a population of one lakh or more and Capital city of States/UTs and Indore was awarded as cleanest city of India.
