Amazon expands Prime Whole Foods discount to Alabama

The discount was announced in May for a trial run in a small number of stores, and will now extend into 10 states where Whole Foods Markets have a presence.

Since buying Whole Foods a year ago, Amazon has been working aggressively to get as many of its million of Prime members to shop in-store as possible.

Amazon first announced the deal earlier this month at stores in Florida, and expanded it to 12 more states in late May.

All they have to do is open the Whole Foods mobile app, sign in with their Amazon account, then scan the barcode at checkout.

Amazon introduced the discount program at Whole Foods in May, almost a year after Amazon bought the upscale grocery chain for $13.7 billion. The store at 400 E. Stonewall St. opens at 9 a.m. on June 13. Prime members are also eligible for deals at Whole Foods Market 365 stores nationwide and can view the most popular deals on the Whole Foods Market app.

Wednesday, Amazon will offer some special discounts including deals on nectarines and peaches, pork sausage and yellowfin tuna steak.

The latest expansions mean that Prime members are eligible for discounts at nearly half of the Whole Foods locations in the USA, in 23 states overall.

Whole Foods shoppers with memberships can also get free shipping on their organic cornflakes and other goods for orders over $35 (in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and San Francisco).
