According to American Airlines, the regional carrier, PSA Airlines, experienced a technical issue that has caused them to cancel their flights for the remainder of Thursday evening.

American Airlines Group Inc. was working to move stranded passengers after problems with a regional carrier's dispatch and crew-scheduling system forced the cancellation of 675 flights over two days.

The Evansville Airport website confirms that American Airlines flights from Evansville to Charlotte have already been canceled today.

The airline is encouraging all passengers to check their flight status on the American Airlines app, or aa.com, before heading to the airport.

"We never want to disrupt our customers' travel plans, and we are sorry for the trouble this caused", a spokesman for American Airlines said.

WSOC reports that thousands of passengers are stranded at Charlotte-Douglas Internation Airport.

Meanwhile, auto rental companies said they are bringing in extra cars to help accommodate the stranded airline passengers.

PSA's cancellations reportedly impacted other area airports as well, though Charlotte Douglas International appeared to be most affected.

The airport tweeted that operations are expected to resume at noon Friday.
