She looks absolutely fantastic, but it's really, really going to be hard to buy her as Jason Momoa's mother when Aquaman hits cinemas December 14.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman is the latest film of the DC Universe after last year's Justice League, and hopes to replicate the success of the Superman films and Wonder Woman.

These frickin' sharks may not have frickin' lasers on their heads, but they are saddled up for undersea battle in a new image from James Wan's Aquaman.

On the cover, Nicole's character can be seen alongside Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera. Apparently it will feature characters "riding great white sharks, giant octopi, seven different underwater kingdoms, trench-dwelling cannibals, and even sea dragons". Director James Wan has only described him as, "part mercenary but full-time pirate who, in his suit, will look like some insane alien from outer space". The fourth has Aquaman square off with his brother, King Orm (a.k.a. Ocean Master played by Patrick Wilson).

Aside from those fierce females, EW also debuted a sneak peek at one of the film's villains, Black Manta, though not in costume just yet.

"Rarely has a superhero character been married to the real-life actor as much as Aquaman and Jason Momoa".

"He's part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some insane alien from outer space", Wan teases. In addition to Black Manta, Nicole Kidman's Queen Atlanna is shown off for the first time.

Aquaman faces off with his ambitious half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) who wants to declare war on the surface world.

Instead, we see his alter ego, David Kane (played by "The Get Down" star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), tinkering with the character's helmet, which features its signature red eyes (which will eventually shoot plasma beams).
