Donald Trump tells Republicans to 'stop wasting time' on immigration

"Under current law and legal rulings, it is not possible for the USA government to detain families together during the pendency of their immigration proceedings".

An ICE officer replied in a note in English: "I do not have this information".

Trump's policy took children away from parents who were apprehended crossing the border illegally. The mothers themselves could not be contacted because access to detained immigrants is hard.

It was widely assumed the toddler and her mother had been separated under President Donald Trump's now-rescinded policy that resulted in separating families entering the US illegally. Several of those speaking condemned the media for ignoring the stories of the victims and praised Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for their attention to border security.

The order, however, did not address the futures of children already separated from their parents.

Outside the federal courthouse in McAllen, immigration attorney Efren Olivares said 67 people were charged Friday morning with illegal entry, but none were parents with children.

"The mainstream media does not let you know what is really happening", said Mary Ann Mendoza, who lost her son, Mesa, Arizona, Police Sgt. Brandon Mendoza, in 2014 following a vehicular accident with an illegal alien allegedly driving drunk at three times the legal limit.

Trump suggested on Friday that some of the wrenching tales that have emerged from the border were fabricated by Democrats.

Calling for a "strong" border, he says: "We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections".

President Donald Trump on Friday told his fellow Republicans in Congress to "stop wasting their time" on immigration legislation until after November, dismissing his party's struggle to surmount internal divisions.

Trump's new message follows months of gridlock in Congress on immigration reform and his repeatedly blaming Democrats for the mess. "Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solve this decades old problem".

All 435 House seats and a third of the 100-member Senate will be up for grabs in November.

While Trump has backed away from taking children away from their parents, it is not clear how his administration will handle immigration cases on the border going forward.

Mike Coffman, a Republican in the House of Representatives, called on Trump on Thursday to fire senior White House adviser Stephen Miller, who has pushed for a hardline approach to immigration.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a conservative immigration proposal and delayed until next week a vote on a potential compromise in yet another setback for Republican leadership. But Trump's latest tweets could doom that effort. "Where is the condemnation of the Democrats sanctuary cities that release violent criminals into our communities and then protect them, like the mayor of San Diego, when she warned everybody that "ICE is coming", and they scattered", he asked.

Trump praised the Angel Families, calling them "brave Americans".

But numerous parents at Friday's event, including Wilkerson, echoed Trump's remarks, suggesting that the migrant families would be reunited within days.

Others said they had been deported without them.
