Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri claims he turned down the chance to succeed Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid before Julen Lopetegui was appointed at the Santiago Bernabeu.

I said no to Real Madrid.

Spanish newspaper AS, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that Real Madrid will look to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer as they look to bolster their squad. It was only fair that I stay where I am because it was a decision which I had already made; I had to respect which I had said to the club's directors without considering anything else.

Although Tuesday's surprise announcement has since backfired on Lopetegui who was then sent packing by Spain today (Wednesday) on the eve of the 2018 World Cup.

"I spoke to the [Madrid] president once, and I said that out of respect for the [Juve] president [Andrea Agnelli], to whom I'd given my word, and Juventus, I'd be staying at Juventus".

"Let's just say that the decision to stay at Juventus had already been taken, while thanking the ones who sought me out".

Earlier this summer, Allegri was also linked with positions at Arsenal and Chelsea.

Allegri has since won four straight Scudetti with the Old Lady, marking a record seven consecutive Serie A titles in total, while also reaching the Champions League final in 2015-16 where the club lost out to Madrid.

"I hope [he stays], but before we know for sure, we've got to await the end of the World Cup", he said.

According to news outlet Don Balon, incoming Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui does not want to sign the Chelsea talisman.
