He then spoke about Prince Harry asking for permission to marry the now-Duchess of Sussex. "Meghan cried, I'm sure-she did cry-and they both said, 'Take care of yourself, we are really anxious about you.' They said the important thing is that I get better".

"Our conversations was I was complaining that I didn't like Donald Trump, he said 'give Donald Trump a chance, '" Thomas Markle said.

Markle also discussed his involvement in staging paparazzi photos in the days leading up to the wedding, which he admitted to and said he regrets. "She's a smart girl, and she made a good pick didn't she?" he said. For one whole year I was presented as a hermit hiding out in Mexico.

Markle said, "She's wanted children for a long time".

"For the past year, photographs of me were always derogatory", he said.

Thomas' comments came in the wake of his daughter's wedding, which the president did not receive an invitation to attend.

Thomas, a retired TV lighting director, told GMB that he "feels bad" about the embarrassing situation and has apologised to Meghan and Harry.

The proud dad did tease that he expects the couple will announce a pregnancy very shortly.

Then the next call was like, "He's British", and I said, "That's really nice".

"The first phone calls were, 'Daddy, I have a new boyfriend and I said, 'That's really nice, '" Thomas remembered. I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle. His oldest child Prince William (Harry's older brother), is second, followed by his and Kate Middleton's three children George (4), Charlotte (3) and Louis (two months). "I think he was open to the experiment", Thomas said of Harry.

"I was thrilled to tears he was doing that, I just wish it had been my hand holding hers not his".

In an interview with Good Morning Britain, Markle said watching the ceremony from the TV of a Bed and Breakfast was hard for him. "They take all kinds of pictures of me making me look negative", Markle said, choking up.

"I liked him, but I thought he was vulnerable and I felt sorry for him". "I think Harry has changed his mind by now".

"The unfortunate thing now is that I'm a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history instead of a dad walking his daughter down the aisle", he said. I think its an improvement on the royal family.

He explained that it was meant to be "a way of improving my look", adding: "Obviously that all went to hell".

"I send my love to both of them".
