Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Peel Region


A cold front was expected to move through Wednesday afternoon, and Environment Canada predicted there could be wind gusts up to 100 km/h.

As of 3:15 p.m., Hydro One was reporting more than 1,900 customers without power in rural areas north, south and west of Woodstock.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is issued when sever e thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been upgraded to a warning for London-Middlesex, Elgin, and Oxford Counties.

Forecasters said strong to severe wind gusts could result from some storms late this afternoon into early evening. At this speed, wind can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees or overturn large vehicles.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
