A specific sale of small arms to the presidential guard of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had already been blocked.
"Coalition and Turkish forces have begun coordinated but independent patrols near, but not in, Manbij", spokesman Eric Pahon told Reuters.
A handout picture realeased by the Turkish Armed Forces shows Turkish soldiers accompanied by armoured vehicles patrolling between the city of Manbij in northern Syria and an area it controls after a 2016-2017 military incursion on June 18, 2018. Earlier this month Turkey and the United States endorsed a tentative deal to overcome months of dispute over the town, in which the YPG would withdraw from Manbij and Turkish and us forces would jointly maintain security and stability there.
Cavusoglu noted that Manbij would be cleared of YPG, a Kurdish militia which dominates SDF, and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants.
Last week, Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli slammed the USA demand to give up the deal to purchase S-400 air defense missile systems from Russian Federation as 'blackmail.' Canikli also said that Turkey "is fulfilling all its commitments" and expected "timely deliveries of F-35 fighter jets" from the United States. "The YPG [terrorists] will be repelled from Manbij".
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo agreed on a road map for reduced tensions in the city earlier this month.
Turkey has said the presence of terror forces near its border constitutes a threat and has launched two cross-border military operations to rid the region of terrorists. Turkey has long demanded that the US avoid cooperation with the YPG, objecting YPG presence west of the Euphrates River, including the predominantly Arab town of Manbij.
