Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Gianluigi Buffon, with the 40-year-old goalkeeper penning a one-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions.
"I'm extremely excited by this new adventure", said the veteran former Italy keeper.
Speaking in Italian after a brief introduction in French, the 40-year-old said that his arrival on a free transfer is not only geared towards continental glory.
Inevitably, Buffon was asked about his new teammate Neymar during the ceremony after Brazil's exit from the World Cup and endless speculation regarding the forward's future: "I think it is a hard moment for him and we've been through something like that at some stage of our careers".
The nine-time Serie A victor was rumoured to be offered an off-field role at Juve but instead signed a one-year deal with the French champions.
"PSG intrigued me a lot because of the talent in the team, but they were not enough to make the leap".
"I have followed PSG the most for the past few years now. I don't want to ask myself this question again because I think it's wrong and I think it creates a negative situation for myself that I don't need".
New manager Thomas Tuchel now has the likes of Buffon, as well as Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Neymar at his disposal in Paris, and Buffon was philosophical about the Brazilian superstar's recent World Cup exit at the hands of semifinalists Belgium. "Here there is a great ambition for successful results. A champion like Neymar will know to channel the disappointment to return with more will than ever".
"Nobody promised me the number one shirt".
