Juventus are close to agreeing a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, according to Sky sources.

In accordance with the request expressed by Cristiano Ronaldo, the club has agreed to a transfer deal with Juventus.

"Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proven to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the greatest eras in the history of our club and of world soccer", Real Madrid said in a statement.

Real Madrid has won my heart and that of my family and it is because of that, now more than ever, I would like to say thank you.

After nine years, 438 games and 450 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Real Madrid player.

In a heartfelt open letter, he wrote: "These years in Madrid, and in this city of Madrid, have been possibly the happiest of my life".

In a letter posted on Real's website, the multiple Ballon d'Or victor said his time in Madrid had been one of the happiest in his life.

He helped Madrid to La Decima in the Champions League final with Atletico Madrid in 2014 and played a crucial role in Los Blancos winning the competition in each of the last three seasons. He netted 312 in LaLiga, 22 in the Copa del Rey, four in the Supercopa de Espana, two in the European Super Cup, six in the Club World Cup and 105 in the Champions League.

While praising everyone in the club from the president to the technical staff, Cristiano didn't for go to mention his glittering mantelpiece, talking of the "individual satisfaction of having won four Ballon d'Or and three Golden Boots". According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ronaldo's Juventus debut could come in the MLS All-Star Game on August 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Ronaldo, Madrid's all-time top goal scorer, has won the trophy four times during his nine years at the Bernabeu.

In the year of his 16th birthday, he played for Sporting Lisbon's under-16, under-17, under-18, reserve and first teams, and two years later he so impressed Alex Ferguson in a 2003 pre-season friendly that the then-Manchester United boss snapped him up.
