In fact the film is set just before the events of the Marvel epic and the mid-credits scene appears to reveal Thanos himself.
If estimates hold, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" will start well ahead of "Ant-Man's" $57 million domestic debut of two years ago.
Avengers: Infinity War posed a lot of questions, but before, during, and after there was one repeatedly being asked: 'Where's Ant-Man?'
Now a couple of months on, and with the literal dust having settled on that movie, it's time to pick things up with Ant-Man and his new partner in fighting crime, the Wasp, to see just what they've been doing and, perhaps, how it connects to Infinity War. At a time when superhero cinema seems eager to test the limits of its dramatic stakes, here's a reminder that smaller stories can be just as satisfying.
What happens: Back at Scott's house, everything is chaos.
It's a pretty bleak fate, given how obscure the Quantum Realm is to begin with, and with Hank, Jan, and Hope gone, the list of people smart enough to engineer a way to reach him-or even aware that the Quantum Realm exists-shrinks pretty dramatically.
The mid-credits scene sees the reunited Pym family (Hank, Hope, and Janet) conducting an expedition to send Scott back into the Quantum Realm, in order to harness some of its powerful energy. The TV is showing only the "Emergency Broadcast System" signal - probably as a result of the mayhem caused by Thanos. Obviously, part of Avengers 4 is going to have to deal with Scott either getting out of or going further into the Quantum Realm. But these are unusual times we live in. So that's where we leave Scott: Stuck in the quantum realm, holding a big handful of "healing particles", and not sure what to do or even with a method of escape.
The preview number easily surpasses the original "Ant-Man's" $6.4 million and tops the $9.4 million for "Doctor Strange" and $11 million for "Wonder Woman".
With abilities like that, or with the quantum particles he harvested (and, maybe, can continue to harvest), there's a whole new list of potential failsafes against the Infinity Stones.
Avengers 4 is released in United Kingdom cinemas on April 26, 2019.
