Stormy Daniels arrested at strip club, lawyer slams 'setup'

Daniels said she was "saddened" the other two dancers arrested with her did not have their charges dismissed.

Adult entertainer Stormy Daniels - who has drawn global headlines for her lawsuit against US president Donald Trump - was one of three exotic dancers arrested in Columbus, Ohio early Thursday morning.

But Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, has tweeted that he believes the arrest was a set up and politically motivated. Avenatti said he is skeptical of this account, and AP quotes him saying the intent of the undercover officers "did not appear to be to look for victims of human trafficking or prostitutes". OH strip club law reportedly prohibits patrons from touching a nude or seminude dancer unless the patron is a member of the dancer's immediate family.

"There has been no evidence provided to the state that defendant appears or appeared regularly at Sirens", the state said in its filing. "Therefore, the state can not prove every element of these offences beyond a reasonable doubt". The club's website had advertised a two-night appearance.

"The facts behind the charges and the behaviour witnessed by the vice officers are a matter of record, and the officers were well within their area of responsibility when taking enforcement action", Jacobs said in a statement.

Daniels has been on tour since last winter, appearing at strip clubs across the United States, and had been due to perform again at Sirens on Thursday night.

'A customer touched her in a non-sexual manner and she was subsequently arrested for allowing the customer to touch her in a non-sexual manner, ' he said.

Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, told MSNBC his client has performed the same act hundreds of times without incident. Clifford is identified in the report as one of three women who were arrested.

A complaint filed in Franklin County Municipal court accuses Daniels of fondling breasts of female patrons while Daniels was performing, according to WSYX in Columbus, Ohio.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by TMZ, detectives reported witnessing Daniels' pushing patron's faces into her exposed chest.

"During her performance, they asked her if they could place their face in between her breasts while she was performing on stage", he said.
