At least 4 dead in Fredericton after Brookside Drive-area shooting


It's being reported that at least four people have been killed in a shooting in the eastern city of Fredericton in New Brunswick, Canada.

The circumstances of the shooting in the capital of New Brunswick province were not immediately known.

Police continue to have the Brookside area contained for the foreseeable future as the investigation is ongoing.

In a series of tweets the police said, "At this time, we can confirm multiple fatalities".

Fredericton is a city of roughly 58,000 about 75 miles from the ME border.

Area resident Robert DiDiodato told the CBC that he heard sounds like a "firecracker" at around 7am.

David MacCoubrey said he awoke in his apartment on Brookside Drive around 7:07 a.m. today to the sound of gunshots "10 metres from my bed".

Halifax Regional Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais says he has spoken to Fredericton Police Force's chief to offer any support they need.
